\/>\nelevated CBD levels can be a time-consuming and labor intense process.\u00a0 This is an area where vegetative state potency information can provide a huge advantage to the patient-cultivator\/breeder.\u00a0 With early stage cannabinoid profile information, the breeder can now collapse the time for new CBD-rich strain development or isolation of certain cannabinoid characteristics in a plant down to weeks or months rather than years.<\/p>\n<p>CBD or Cannabidiol is in the same class of compounds as THC called cannabinoids.\u00a0 The presence of CBD and THC and their ratio to one another in a given cannabis plant is determined by its genetics.\u00a0 CBD is a non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating cannabinoid that may provide patients with relief from chronic pain due to muscle spasticity, convulsions and inflammation.\u00a0 It has also been shown to provide patients with relief from feelings of anxiety and may have antibiotic and anti-tumor properties.<\/p>\n<p>The therapeutic and non-intoxicating properties of CBD and the availability of new CBD-rich strains are of particular interest with the rise of the medical cannabis movement.\u00a0 The techniques we\u2019ll discuss center around the effort to make CBD-rich cannabis widely and consistently available.<\/p>\n<p>In the majority of the CBD-rich cannabis seed stock available today, only 25% of the seeds have the potential to be CBD-rich, i.e. CBD content &gt;4% by weight.\u00a0 This means, the patient cultivator still has work to do when trying to isolate CBD-rich plants from seed stock.\u00a0 Techniques are available to test these seedlings in the vegetative state to quickly identify those with CBD-rich characteristics, allowing the patient cultivator to avoid the cloning of all but CBD-rich seedlings and the wait to\u00a0 test the final flower product for CBD:THC ratios.\u00a0 Eliminating the effort to maintain clone stock of all of the candidates and having to trace back to the correct clone stock for further propagation.\u00a0 Using this approach can represent a significant reduction in the time and resources it takes to isolate CBD-rich medication.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of the development of new CBD-rich strains, one can use cannabinoid profile information obtained through vegetative state potency testing of specific parts of the plant to drive strategic selection of both, CBD-rich or CBD-potential, males and females prior to the flowering stage.\u00a0 This approach allows the patient cultivator to take generations of trial and error out of the breeding process, enabling rapid development of new CBD-rich cannabis strains and seed stock promoting the availability of this important type of cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>Patient
